City of Boone Upgrades Website to More Modern, Transparent Design | Local News

BOONE – Major updates have been made to the Town of Boone website. Found in the same domain,, Boone’s website has moved to a more modern and transparent format.

Additional “Global Navigation” tabs have been created including “Your Government”, “Live & Visit”, “About Boone”, “Connect & Get Engaged” and “How Do I …” tabs. “.

A main feature of this updated website is the “Login” function. By creating an account, which is completely optional, citizens have access to receiving notifications through the new RSS feed, recordable form submissions through the new Forms Center and many other benefits.

Located under the “Your Government” tab, “Departments and Operations” has expanded to include the following operations: downtown development coordinator, parking, sustainability in Boone and utility billing. In addition, all previous department tabs have been updated.

In an effort to increase usability and reduce paper usage, the updated website now has online forms through the Forms Center available for administration and human resources.

This includes, among other things, the action request form for an agenda item and the career application. The RSS feed is also available for those who wish to be informed of public notices, press releases, agenda files, etc. This feature will be used to dramatically increase the amount of communication between the Town of Boone and its citizens.

In an effort to support and promote the community at large in Boone, information regarding community activities can be found under the “Live and Visit” tab. From farmers’ markets to tenant protection information and even Watauga County schools, this tab has been designed to meet the needs of all of our citizens and tourists.

Boone has both a rich and intriguing history, as well as a bright future. Under the “About Boone” tab, Boone’s past, present and future are presented to those interested.

Additionally, key activities and facilities are highlighted here, including the self-guided walking tour of downtown Boone, Digital Watauga, and Jones House.

An important aspect of the updated website is the emphasis on communication. Departments and staff are now easily reachable thanks to the “Connect & Engage” tab, which mainly focuses on connecting citizens with their city’s staff. Additionally, city and community sponsored activities are strongly highlighted under this tab, with ‘Things to do in Boone’ including information on local theater productions, as well as all facilities maintained by the city.

The “How do I …” tab is designed to help guide and answer frequently asked questions received by Boone. Questions such as “How can I apply for a permit from the City” and “How can I submit a request for a service to citizens” are now easy to answer by redirecting all requests to the correct service.

There is a search bar on every page of the website, which can be used to find unanswered answers under the “How do I …” tab.

The main goals of the updated website are both transparency and increased communication between the city and its citizens, the city said in a statement.
