New Geneva D-304 Superintendent job posting on search firm website – Shaw Local

GENEVA — The position for the next Geneva District 304 superintendent is posted on the search firm’s website.

The school board selected Ray and Associates Inc. in March as an executive search firm to help find a replacement for Superintendent Kent Mutchler, who will leave when his contract expires June 20, 2023.

Board Chairman Michael McCormick said the timeline to start looking for candidates would be in the fall – after talking with stakeholders about the qualities they are looking for in a superintendent.

“Right now, we’re working on getting comparative superintendent salary numbers in similar districts,” McCormick said. “This is just preliminary. … We will be talking to staff, our trustees and the community and getting feedback on what they are looking for in a superintendent.

McCormick said the council would rely on Ray and Associates to set everything up.

“It’s nuanced. There is a great place to look for a new superintendent,” McCormick said. “We’re really going to rely on Ray and Associates to find us the right candidate.”

The company, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, specializes in finding school leaders. The contract was approved at the May 23 meeting.

“The salary will be very competitive and will include an excellent benefits package,” says his website, rayassoc.com. “The successful candidate’s salary will be negotiated and determined based on proven experience, qualifications and meeting board criteria.”

The list includes the location of Geneva, which the district has about 3,500 students in 10 schools with one high school, two middle schools, six elementary schools and a kindergarten.

“The community has high expectations for student performance, and student achievement levels far exceed state and national standards,” the website states. “Parental involvement and support is well established in a school district located in one of the fastest growing population growth corridors in the Chicago metro area.”

However, the application deadline has yet to be determined, and application materials for the position “are currently being drafted,” according to the website.

The district is paying Ray and Associates $18,000 for its assistance, with other expenses such as travel and accommodation to be reimbursed, according to its four-page contract.

The contract also requires the research firm to conduct one-on-one interviews with board members to assess its priorities, goals, and objectives; work with the board to establish a timeline for each step of the process; and to discuss job requirements and salary range.

The contract also calls for the search firm to work with staff and council selectees to develop “an accurate information leaflet and approval of online application form”.

The research firm must also provide a “proven consensus-building mechanism” for obtaining feedback from constituents, staff, stakeholders and the board, as well as an online survey option.

Ray and Associates will also offer cost-saving options by hosting electronic meetings to reduce paper, travel and shipping costs.

The company will also provide the board with video technology to observe each high profile candidate being interviewed, in accordance with the contract.

Under his contract, Mutchler earns $244,534, not including extra benefits.

The board generally extended Mutchler’s five-year contracts by adding an additional year to each. The last time the board approved a five-year contract for him was on December 18, 2018, starting July 1, 2018 and ending June 30, 2023.

The board did not extend Mutchler’s multi-year contract by one year when it was updated in October 2019. Mutchler announced his retirement in January, triggering the search for a new superintendent.

Muchler has served as superintendent since 2006.
