PNGEC updates its website for better results
The PNGEC says the results website is a public information tool, it does not determine the outcome of an election.
“This results management system complements and mirrors the paper results forms that constitute the legal record of results, and are completed and signed at the counting centers by election officials and scrutineers,” the PNG Electoral Commissioner said. , Simon Sinai.
PNGEC acknowledges that a notice has been issued claiming that the results website has been compromised.
He said PNGEC assures election stakeholders that the results transmission system and PNGEC results website are safe and secure, and are continuously monitored by PNGEC ICT for any threats or malicious activity. It has not been compromised.
“There are checks and balances throughout the counting and results management process, so if errors are identified they can be resolved at a counting center and in the presence of tellers and observers.
“PNEC has investigated the issue mentioned in the public notice and verified that there was incorrect data entry for one of the counts. The data of this count can be modified, corrected and transmitted to reflect the official form.
The results transmission system is authorized by the Electoral Commissioner in accordance with the LPV control manual and Bulletin No. 32 of 2022, on the mandatory use of the results transmission system.
The results website presents the preliminary results for all the provinces of the country and contributes to increasing the transparency of the elections.
Final results and declarations are announced in accordance with the legal framework and procedure.
The PNGEC office invites all stakeholders to engage in the transparent communication of results.
The Commission called on candidates and their supporters to refrain from interfering in the counting and transmission of results and from making false accusations.
