Raccoon falls through ceiling in crowded LSU dining hall | News, Sports, Jobs

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A raccoon fell through the ceiling into a crowded dining hall at Louisiana State University as students screamed and a cook tried to catch it in a basket.

Freshman Danielle Gipson told student newspaper The Reveille that everyone was up and looking for a raccoon when she walked into dining room 459 for dinner on Wednesday.

“I went there and still got my food because I thought it was wrong,” she says. “The raccoon then ran under my table and I immediately climbed into the chair.”

A video posted with the article showed the raccoon running between tables, then climbing onto a chair and looking around. Another shows people chasing him with a broom and a stick or maybe two brooms. Screams are all that can be heard on either.

Gipson says she lost her appetite when friends told her the raccoon was on her bag while she was away.

“I’m just afraid that my bag has a disease” she says. “Right now it’s funny to look back, but at the time I was traumatized. My appetite was definitely gone.

One of her friends, freshman Hannah Accius, said the students brought the raccoon to an area where he couldn’t wear himself out.

“The raccoon was heading towards me. He stopped and climbed on top of my friend Danielle’s bag. Animal Control finally came and tried to catch him in a trash can. One cook even tried to use a basket to catch it. It was a mess,” she says.

Eventually, she said, he was caught.
